WEBWORM FACTS

Identification
This is a species from the Herpetogramma genus (it looks similar to Herpetogramma licarsisalis). The adult has fawn wings with indistinct darker zigzag markings. It sits with its wings flat, and half open. Caterpillar are light green, becoming darker as they mature, with pairs of dark warts on each segment along the back.

Size
wingspan 3cm. Caterpillar length 2cm

Food
The caterpillars feed on grasses and lives in a tube made of leaves of the food plant. The tube is lined with silk, at the soil surface.

Range
Found world wide. In Australia is found in northern and eastern parts down through New South Wales.
