TASMANIAN INCHMAN FACTS

Identification
The Tasmanian Inchman worker ant is black with reddish brown mandibles, antennae, legs, and a reddish brown segment in the middle of the abdomen. It has short yellow hairs on the head and thorax and longer hairs on the abdomen. The head is as long as it is broad and mandibles are slightly shorter than the head. The mandibles have eleven teeth with every second one larger and broader than the one in between. The thorax is two and a half times longer than broad. The queen is similar to the worker but larger and sturdier. The common name Inchman is due to their large size - alomost an inch long.
