DUSKY MOORHEN FACTS |
Description The Dusky Moorhen is a common waterbird in ponds and creeks. It is dark grey to black with a yellow-yipped red bill.
Size 36cm
Habitat wetlands, rivers, ponds
Food algae, water plants, seeds, fruits, molluscs and other invertebrates.
Breeding Builds platform nest from reeds and other water plants among reeds or on floating platforms in open water
Range widespread in eastern and south-western Australia
