BUFF-BANDED RAIL FACTS

Description
Upper body parts mottled green-brown with black and white spots, underparts striped black and white. Face red-brown and throat grey-brown. Yellow-brown stripe across breast area and a curved white stripe above the eye. Body up to 34 cm long.

Buff-banded Rails are secretive and flick their tail when alarmed. They feed on insects and aquatic plants.

Habitat
Freshwater wetlands and swamps.

Food
Omnivore

Range
Eastern and Western mainland Australia and Tasmania.
