Description The adult Ring-tail Cardinalfish is yellow to orange brown with greyish brown back. It has iridescent thin blue lines from the snout through the eyes, with black band between the blue lines. There is a narrow blue streak on the upper jaw. There is a prominent black band around the tail stem.
Size length to 12cm
Habitat found in shallow waters in rock crevices and under ledges at depths from 1m to 40m. Often mixes with Apogon apogonoides in summer and autumn.
Range The Ring-tail Cardinalfish is found in the Indo-West Pacific. In Australia it is found from south west of Western Australia, around Northern Territory, Queensland and south to central New South Wales coast.
